French press opportunity

pots

I’m in the market for a french press, and I want something beautiful. This feels like a product with major aesthetic potential.

Above are my two top choices, LaCafetiere’s Pura and Rainbow. My kitchen is accented in red. I don’t like the fussy Bodums I’m seeing. I don’t like plastic. I’d love something that retains heat.

Can anyone recommend a beautiful press?

No recommendations, but I’m in the market too. Let us know what you find.

I have to agree — the Pura is beautiful.

That said, I’m a sucker for cold, clinical stainless — the shit is non-porous and just holds up forever. Glass isn’t a bad idea either, as you’ll be able to see at a glance how much coffee’s left, and whether it’s strong enough. Here are some that I’d consider:

The WMF Kult (dig the subversive name):

    Maillard’s not bad either:

For the record, I was the proud owner of the Bodum Eileen, until it broke:

I dig on the Frieling, although there’s no handy viewing window:

Also wouldn’t knock all Bodums; they have some cool presses, like the Presso (also windowless:

The Snow Peak titanium press is really geared for hikers (as are many lightweight presses), but how cool would it be to have one for everyday cooking?

The AJ press is spendy but super-clean looking (and double-walled, so it’ll stay hot):

Also dig on most of the Alessi presses, especially the Cactus! (although it’s probably too fussy for you):

Alessi has put out some pretty gorgeous stuff. For plastic, the stuff holds up. I want a Mr. Suicide drain plug: http://www.freshtrend.com/images/mr-suicide-bath-tub-plug.jpg
