Here & There is a project by S&W exploring speculative projections of dense cities. These maps of Manhattan look uptown from 3rd and 7th, and downtown from 3rd and 35th. They’re intended to be seen at those same places, putting the viewer simultaneously above the city and in it where she stands, both looking down and looking forward.
Go to Schulze & Webb for more info. If you’re as thick as I am, this will take you a little while to figure out, but stick with it because it’s kind of mindblowing. Plus you can buy prints of it.
Why?
Because the ability to be in a city and to see through it is a superpower, and it’s how maps should work.

I *did* post it, but scheduled it to be revealed tomorrow so as not to stomp on Jesse’s excellent post. Way to go, Stompy McStompington!
On a more serious note, I’d love to see this view in Google Earth or similar. It might not be nearly as polished, but being able to move around would be awesome.
Ha! Thanks for holding off, Chris. Boo to Jed for stealin’ my thunder. I too would love some interactivity with this view.
